Site Overview

Located in Co. Wicklow, Ballycooleen Solar Farm is being developed within the townland of Ballycooleen. The site is approximately 2 km from the village of Avoca which lies west-northwest of the site. The site itself is a working farm of moderate grade agricultural value, with tillage land and improved grassland for the grazing of stock. There are existing farm tracks on the site to be used for access to the development. The development area is adjacent to an existing agricultural supplies business.The Solar Farm will be situated on shallow sloping agricultural land currently used for arable farming at an approximate elevation of 100-155m AOD.

Planning permission for this site was granted by An Bord Pleanala in 2016 and includes for 17 No. Conditions. The grant includes for include one single storey electrical substation building, electrical transformer/inverter station modules, solar PV panels ground mounted on steel support structures, access roads, fencing and associated electrical cabling, ducting and ancillary infrastructure.

The site is proximate to existing electrical infrastructure and the current grid connection point is projected as the Arklow 110kV substation local to the site.

This solar farm is being developed by Highfield Energy as part of our broader commitment to a sustainable future.
